Chinatown Introduction

Chinatown was originally designated for the Chinese by Stamford Raffles. This historical district of Chinatown is the cultural hub of the Chinese community in Singapore and is rich in Chinese heritage. It has four sub districts - Kreta Ayer, Telok Ayer, Tanjong Pajar and Bukit Pasoh - each with its own distinctive flavour. The heart of activity is in the Trengganu/Smith Streets area. There are also the Chinatown Heritage Centre, Chinatown Food Street and Chinatown Night Market, which are largely maintained today for heritage and tourism purposes.
